Here at Circle Chiropractic Center, P.C., our Fairfax chiropractor diagnoses and treats subluxations of the spine and extremity joints. A subluxation is a minor misalignment of a vertebra or extremity joint. Subluxations cause problems with joint movement and function.
It is important to understand that a subluxation is not a joint dislocation. Dislocations are far more severe, resulting in the complete immobilization of the joint and severe pain and swelling. Subluxations, by comparison, do not result in the complete immobility of the joint. Instead, they cause minor pain while moving the joint and can increase your risk of certain types of injuries, like sports injuries and repetitive motion injuries.
Subluxations are caused by various types of injuries and accidents, including car accidents, sports injuries, repetitive use of a joint, improper lifting and whiplash. Minor misalignments of the joints and vertebrae can also be caused by spondylolisthesis, pregnancy, childbirth, muscle spasms, arthritis and poor posture.
Minor misalignments of the spine and extremity joints tend to cause pain or discomfort, mild, localized inflammation around the subluxation, stiffness and muscle spasms. If the misalignment is located in your neck, you may experience an increase in headache frequency and dizziness. Misalignments can also put pressure on your nerves, leading to a wide variety of health problems and even a reduction in your overall health and wellness.
Chiropractic treatments in Fairfax can help heal your subluxations. The primary way our chiropractor treats minor misalignments in the spine and extremity joints is with chiropractic adjustments. Spinal and extremity joint adjustments are designed to push your joints back into their proper positions in order to restore joint mobility and lower localized inflammation and pain. In addition to adjustments, we may also recommend massage, corrective exercises and lifestyle adjustments.
