Fairfax Sports Injury Rehabilitation FAQs

Is a slow-to-heal sports injury stopping you from living an active life? Injury rehabilitation from our Fairfax chiropractor can help you get off the bench and back in the game. If you are new to sports injury rehabilitation care, it’s natural to have questions about what to expect, how long the recovery process will take, and how you can avoid future injuries. Below, our Fairfax chiropractor answers five of the most frequently asked questions:

1. What causes a sports injury?

injury rehabilitation in Fairfax A sports injury can be caused by everything from incorrect form to improper equipment. If you experience pain or discomfort while exercising, immediately stop and rest. It’s not worth pushing through to finish a run or complete a game if doing so will cause greater injury to your body! Initial treatment should follow the “RICE” protocol – rest, ice, compression and elevation – until you are able to schedule a diagnostic exam and injury assessment with our chiropractor.

2. How are sports injuries diagnosed?

Even if you have visited another doctor, our chiropractor still recommends a complete chiropractic diagnostic exam to fully assess the extent of your injury. Our Fairfax chiropractor is specially trained in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and is fully qualified to diagnose a sports injury.

3. What is physiological therapeutic care?

Physiological therapeutic treatments help reduce inflammation and swelling after an injury so the body can heal faster. These treatments also support correct spinal alignment by alleviating nerve compression for natural, drug-free pain relief. At Circle Chiropractic Center, P.C., we offer several types of therapeutic care including interferential electrical muscle stimulation, intersegmental traction, inversion disc decompression therapy, cervical traction, lumbar traction, and ultrasound. Ultrasound, for example, reduce inflammation and swelling at the injury site. Intersegmental traction creates space between the vertebra in the spine, helping to alleviate nerve and muscle compression and restore a fuller range of mobility to the body after injury while naturally relieving pain.

4. What is Active Release Technique?

Active Release Technique (ART) is a movement-based chiropractic technique that follows specific protocols for repairing soft tissue and muscle after an injury. A.R.T. is very different from other forms of bodywork, massage and soft tissue mobilization. A.R.T. treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia, including acute pull, tears, micro-trauma and over-use. For example, if you are experiencing knee pain, A.R.T. treatment can help relieve this pain by breaking up the scar tissue that binds and ties the tissues near the knee and restrict mobility. Many of our patients who have struggled to achieve pain relief and enhanced mobility through other treatment options are surprised by how effective A.R.T. is at helping their injuries heal.

5. What should I expect from sports injury rehabilitation?

After your initial diagnostic exam, our Fairfax chiropractor will create a custom treatment program to support the recovery process from your injury. By combining complementary therapies such as A.R.T, ultrasound, and traction therapy, our treatments safely manage pain while bringing a greater range of mobility back to the body following injury.

Client Testimonial

I maintain a grueling schedule with the Department of Defense. My neck pain is controlled with periodic adjustments (once every 3-4 weeks). This keeps me comfortable with my work and exercise schedule.
